Although the ESS ES1869 sound device is supported by Windows 98, the standard sound drivers provided by Windows 98 do not support all features of the sound device. The SiS 5597/5598 video device is not supported at all by Windows 98 and requires special drivers.

The diskette PB850 SiS 5597/8 & ES1869 drvs (REFFIUP01410100) has been created, which allows you to install a more recent version of the Windows 98 sound and video drivers after upgrading the operating system of your computer from Windows 95 to Windows 98.

Next the installation instructions for REFFIUP01410100:

1. Insert REFFIUP01410100 into the floppy disk drive and turn on the computer and the monitor. At a certain moment, the installation program will inform you that Windows must be installed in the C:\WINDOWS directory for a successfully installation.
2. Upon confirmation, the installation program will search for previous updates. When found, it will inform you that the current files will be overwritten with the drivers on REFFIUP01410100.
3. Finally, the installation program copies the driver files to the appropriate directories.
4. Remove REFFIUP01410100 from the floppy disk drive and restart the computer.
5. Now you have to update the current Windows drivers:
• In Windows click the Start button, select Settings and click Control Panel.
• Double-click the System icon and then click the Device Manager tab.
• Click the plus sign (+) in front of the line Sound, video and game controllers.
• For every device installed in this section double-click it, select the Driver tab, click the Update Driver button and follow the instructions on the screen.
• Do the same for the ESS ES1869 device in the Display adapters section.
6. Close all windows and restart the computer.
